ergot

Welcome to the Entheogenic Research Guild Of Toronto!

This site is dedicated to the research of entheogens (“God within us”) – psychoactive plants and substances which induce an altered state of mind, conducive to both deep inward contemplation, as well as that of cosmic unity.

Ergot is a parasitic fungus that infects cereal grains (note the dark fruit bodies on the wheat grains in the picture to the left). Ergotamine is one of the alkaloids extracted from ergot, and has been used medicinally for hundreds of years. Lysergic acid (ergoline) was originally derived from ergotamine, and in 1938, Albert Hofmann first synthesized lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD-25).
