ayahuasca

Ayahuasca, Iowaska, Yagé, vine of the soul, (Banisteriopsis caapi), is a vine endemic to the Amazon basin, containing monoamine oxidase inhibiting (MAOI) indole alkaloids known as beta-carbolines, including harmaline, harmine (aka telepathine), and tetrahydroharmine. It is traditionally prepared as a psychedelic brew containing other admixture plants, namely the DMT containing leaves of the Chacruna shrub (Psychotria viridis), but also sometimes Jurema root bark. Effects typically last between 3 to 6 hours.
